Description

After celebrating with a picnic and dance the day before, graduates of the Class of 1951 appear for the first time in their caps and gowns headed for the Baccalaureate Exercises to take place at Sacred Heart Church in Bridgeport, CT, at 8 PM.

Notes

Among the many events for Commencement 1951 was a student play in Berchman's Hall on Thursday June 7th, where the graduates depicted the "joys, sorrows, labor and bewilderment they experienced while receiving an education." On Saturday June 9th was the Senior Class Picnic with an informal dance in the evening. Sunday June 10th the graduates celebrated Mass in McAuliffe Chapel, Communion Breakfast at the Fairfield Inn, and Baccalaureate Exercises at Sacred Heart Church. Tuesday June 12th Commencement Exercises were held at the bandshell on Alumni Field, followed in the evening by the Commencement Ball at Laddin's Terrace in Stamford. This picture is one of a series of photographs taken during Fairfield University's First Commencement in June 1951.
