This photograph shows graduates of the Class of 1951 walking back from Alumni Field with diplomas in hand. Worn on the right side before the degree is conferred, it is customary for undergraduates to change the tassel of their caps from the right to the left side after the degree is conferred.
This picture is one of a series of photographs taken during Fairfield University's First Commencement in June 1951.
