Description

In 1951, four honorary Doctor of Law degrees were conferred on the following recipients: Rev. Henry J. O'Brien, Bishop of Hartford; Rev. William R. Arnold, Titular Bishop of Phocaea and Military Delegate of the Armed Forces of the U.S.; Rev. John J. McEleney, S.J., Titular Bishop of Zeugma and Vicar Apostolic of Jamaica (and former First Rector of Fairfield); J. Howard McGrath, Attorney General of the United States.

Notes

This picture is one of a series of photographs taken during Fairfield University's First Commencement in June 1951. 81 students received a Bachelor of Social Science, making it the most popular degree for the class of 1951.
