Dolan, S.J., Provincial Superior of the New England Jesuit Province, is to the left while the Father Rector and first President of Fairfield University, Rev. John J. McEleney, S.J. is seated to the right. Also included is the Jesuit faculty for Fairfield College Preparatory School.
In 1942 when this photograph was taken, Rev. James H. Dolan, S.J. was the Provincial Superior of the New England Jesuit Province and Rev. John J. McEleney, S.J. was the Rector of Fairfield College Preparatory School. In December 1944, Fathers McEleney and Dolan switched jobs. McEleney became Father Provincial while Dolan became the head of the college. Father Dolan served as head of Fairfield Prep/Fairfield University from 1944 until 1951.
