Description
In the fall of 2011, Larry Miners taught a new economics course about Haiti. It was also recognized as a JUHAN course and student papers focused on one of the JUHAN learning objectives. In this session, Dr. Miners will briefly describe the course and its link to JUHAN. Chandler Oliphant will discuss a student-led children's book translation project that she coordinated. The English language books, now translated into French and Kreyol, will be delivered to school children on the island of La Gonave, Haiti.

Dr. Larry Miners is a member of the Economics faculty at Fairfield University. He is also the Director of the university's Center for Academic Excellence.
Chandler Oliphant recently graduated from Fairfield University with a double major in Spanish and English and a minor in Peace and Justice Studies. During her time at Fairfield, she was a JUHAN co-leader, co-president of the Community Service Alliance, a Spanish tutor, and an avid student volunteer in the Bridgeport Community.
