Description

“Stand For” is a news program implemented on the Fairfield campus with the goal of bringing awareness about humanitarian crises that often go unnoticed by mainstream media. The news program allows the dissemination of information about the conditions of both the persons and areas affected by humanitarian crises to college students. The pilot of the project in Stand For: Pakistan creates awareness toward the monsoon floods that hit many provinces in Pakistan in 2010 and 2011.The program included interviewing NGOs and students in an effort to provide more information on the impact that the floods have had. This pilot will be shown, followed by a detailed PowerPoint presentation to highlight some of the benefits and challenges of using media as a facilitator of awareness of humanitarian crises to college students and faculty. The session will end with a Q&A and the opportunity to brainstorm other humanitarian crises deserving of greater media attention.
