Description: In this workshop, participants will learn about and practice advocacy skills that they can apply in their campus communities. Participants will learn the importance of advocacy for international NGOs and examine various advocacy strategies. We will then practice lobbying skills using a current international advocacy issue, and facilitate some planning on how to use these skills and knowledge to engage others on campus.

Chris West trains U.S. Catholics to advance issues important to Catholic Relief Services, such as foreign aid reform, trade, humanitarian assistance, migration, and extractive industries. In particular, Chris works in diocese throughout the United States helping Catholics put their faith into action by advocating on behalf of the poor overseas. The trainings include workshops on organizing, building grassroots power, effective lobbying and outreach. Chris has a BS in Social Work from Virginia Wesleyan and a MA in Communication from Johns Hopkins University.

Cheryl Mrazik is the Advocacy Program Officer in the Northeast/Mid-Atlantic Regional Office of Catholic Relief Services in Radnor, PA. In that role, she develops and supports the region’s grassroots advocacy strategy around issues of global poverty and injustice. Before coming to CRS, Cheryl worked at Romero Center Ministries, a social justice education and retreat center for high school and college students in Camden, NJ. Cheryl has bachelor's degrees in English and Philosophy from the University of Scranton and a master's degree in International Development from the University of Pittsburgh.
