Abstract
Björn Westrup, MD, PhD, is the Director of the Scandinavian NIDCAP Center at Astrid Lindgren Children’s and Karolinska University Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden and Lund University Hospital, Lund, Sweden; as well as the Medical Director of Neonatology at Karolinska University Hospital, Danderyd, Sweden. Björn first became attracted to the medical field and the hospital setting when he was a parachute trooper in the Swedish military working part-time as a medic. He was fascinated with the discipline of pediatrics encompassing the holistic view of the family in context to the child. Throughout the years he has maintained a strong interest in philosophy and the social aspect of the family and its impact on health and healing for infants and children.
