Notes
Lisa H. Newton, a professor of philosophy at Fairfield from 1969 until 2011, was the founding Director of the Program in Applied Ethics. She served in that position from 1982, when the Program was established through a grant from the National Endowment for the Humanities, until 2009. Now known as the Patrick J. Waide Center for Applied Ethics, the Program in Applied Ethics was developed to provide Fairfield’s increasing number of business and pre-professional students with a greater awareness of the moral dimensions of their chosen professional fields. Drawing faculty from a wide array of disciplines (including philosophy, religious studies, business, and the sciences), it was designed to offer an integrated, interdisciplinary approach to ethical questions in business, health care, research and technology, law, politics, and government.
