Description
The Bennett Center for Judaic Studies Poster and Video Collection is composed of posters and video recordings pertaining to the programming put on by the Bennett Center for Judaic Studies (also called the Carl and Dorothy Bennett Center for Judaic Studies and the Bennett Center), including guest lectures, concerts, cultural events, and annual events like Holocaust Remembrance Services, the Daniel Pearl World Music Days Concert, and the Jacoby-Lunin Humanitarian Lectureship. It contains material from 1994-2022. The collection includes both the physical versions and digital copies of 180 color posters and 145 event recordings.

The Bennett Center for Judaic Studies at Fairfield University was established in 1994 through a $1.5 million endowment from Carl and Dorothy Bennett, who had in previous years sponsored an annual Jewish lecture series at Fairfield University. On October 18, 1994, Dr. Ellen M. Umansky was formally installed as the inaugural Carl and Dorothy Bennett Chair in Judaic Studies. She served as the Chair and Director of Judaic Studies at Fairfield University from 1994 until her retirement in 2022. Through her work, and with the support of numerous campus and community partners, the Bennett Center has enriched Fairfield University by fostering continued learning experiences and campus-wide awareness about Jewish history and culture, ethical values, and religious observances. Course offerings have increased from a single class about Judaic studies to a dedicated undergraduate program with a rich course catalog.
