Notes
The American Association of University Professors (“AAUP”) is a national nonprofit membership association of faculty and other academic professionals headquartered in Washington, D.C. Founded in 1915, the AAUP continues to develop standards and procedures to ensure quality in education and academic freedom in the country's colleges and universities. The organization has defined fundamental professional values and standards for higher education. It advances the rights of academics, particularly those pertaining to academic freedom and shared governance. AAUP chapters, established at campuses at academic institutions throughout the country, work to advance the mission of the AAUP through advocacy, organizing and, in some cases, collective bargaining. In some states, state conferences support chapters and work on state level issues.
